Convert Slack messages to Notion todos using 📝 emoji reactions

This n8n workflow turns Slack messages into actionable Notion todos — using nothing more than a simple emoji reaction.

By reacting to any Slack message with the 📝 emoji, the workflow will automatically capture the message, extract its content, and create a new Notion to_do item with a link back to the original message. A daily scheduled Slack message then reminds you of any tasks left unchecked in Notion.

Perfect for async teams who live in Slack but organize work in Notion, this template helps you bridge the gap between communication and execution—without switching tools or relying on memory.

Who’s it for

  • Teams that use Slack and Notion daily
  • Product managers, leads, and async-first teams who want quick capture of action items
  • Anyone tired of copy-pasting Slack messages into Notion manually

How it works

Emoji-triggered Notion capture

  1. The workflow listens for the reaction_added event from Slack.
  2. When a user reacts to a message with :memo:, it fetches the full message content and permalink.
  3. It creates a to_do block in Notion with the message and a direct link to the original Slack thread.

Daily Slack reminder

  1. Every day at 08:00, the workflow scans all to_do blocks in a designated Notion page.
  2. It filters out those that are still unchecked.
  3. It aggregates the unchecked tasks and sends a single Slack message to the user with the list of open todos.

How to set up

  • Connect your Slack account and configure the trigger to watch for the :memo: reaction.
  • Connect your Notion account and select a page where todos should be created.
  • Customize the schedule time if needed (default is 08:00).
  • (Optional) Set up the final Slack message node to send reminders to yourself or a specific team channel.

Requirements

  • A Slack app with permission to read messages and reactions
  • A Notion integration with access to edit the target page
  • A Notion page with blocks enabled (or create one manually)

How to customize the workflow

  • Change the emoji from :memo: to another (e.g. :fire: for urgent, for brainstorms)
  • Add logic to assign Notion tasks to specific team members
  • Use Slack threads, tags, or message metadata to auto-categorize tasks
  • Modify the daily reminder to include due dates, priorities, or Slack buttons to check off tasks

Convert Slack Messages to Notion To-Dos Using Emoji Reactions

This n8n workflow automates the process of converting specific Slack messages into Notion to-do items based on emoji reactions. It allows teams to quickly capture actionable items from their Slack discussions and organize them in Notion.

What it does

This workflow performs the following steps:

  1. Listens for Slack Reactions: It continuously monitors a specified Slack channel for new emoji reactions.
  2. Filters for Specific Emoji: It filters these reactions, only proceeding if a predefined emoji (e.g., a checkmark or a specific task emoji) is used.
  3. Aggregates Reaction Data: It collects relevant details about the message that received the reaction, such as the message content, the user who posted it, and a link to the message.
  4. Creates Notion To-Do: It then creates a new page (to-do item) in a specified Notion database, populating it with the Slack message content, a link back to the original Slack message, and other relevant details.

Prerequisites/Requirements

To use this workflow, you will need:

  • Slack Account: An active Slack workspace and a Slack app with the necessary permissions (e.g., reactions:read, channels:history, chat:read) to listen for reactions and retrieve message content.
  • Notion Account: An active Notion workspace and a Notion integration with access to the database where you want to create the to-do items. You'll need the database ID.
  • n8n Instance: A running instance of n8n to host and execute the workflow.

Setup/Usage

  1. Import the Workflow:
    • Copy the provided JSON workflow definition.
    • In your n8n instance, go to "Workflows" and click "New".
    • Click the "Import from JSON" button and paste the copied JSON.
  2. Configure Slack Trigger:
    • Open the "Slack Trigger" node.
    • Select or create a new Slack API credential. Ensure it has the necessary permissions.
    • Specify the Slack channel(s) you want to monitor for reactions.
    • Set the "Event" to Reaction Added.
  3. Configure Filter Node:
    • Open the "Filter" node.
    • Adjust the condition to match the specific emoji reaction you want to trigger the Notion to-do creation. For example, if you want to trigger on a :white_check_mark: emoji, configure the condition to check for that.
  4. Configure Notion Node:
    • Open the "Notion" node.
    • Select or create a new Notion API credential. Ensure it has access to the target database.
    • Set the "Operation" to Create and the "Resource" to Page.
    • Provide the Database ID of your Notion to-do database.
    • Map the Slack message data to your Notion database properties. For example:
      • Name property in Notion: Map to the Slack message text (e.g., {{ $json.item.message.text }}).
      • URL property in Notion: Map to the Slack message permalink (e.g., {{ $json.item.message.permalink }}).
      • You might also want to add properties for the user who reacted, the user who posted the message, or the timestamp.
  5. Activate the Workflow:
    • Once all nodes are configured, save the workflow.
    • Toggle the workflow to "Active" to start listening for Slack reactions.

Now, whenever a message in your specified Slack channel receives the configured emoji reaction, a new to-do item will automatically be created in your Notion database!

Track meal nutrition from meal photos with LINE, Google Gemini and Google Sheets

AI Meal Nutrition Tracker with LINE and Google Sheets Who's it for This workflow is designed for health-conscious individuals, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to track their daily food intake without manual calorie counting. It is best suited for users who want a simple, AI-powered meal logging system that analyzes food photos one at a time and provides instant nutritional feedback via LINE. What it does This workflow processes a single meal photo sent via LINE, analyzes it using Google Gemini AI to identify foods and estimate nutritional content, and stores the data in Google Sheets for tracking. The workflow focuses on simplicity and encouragement: it receives a meal image, performs AI-based food recognition, estimates calories and macronutrients, calculates a health score, provides personalized advice, and replies with a detailed nutritional breakdown on LINE. How it works A single meal photo is sent to the LINE bot. The workflow is triggered via a LINE webhook. The image file is downloaded and sent to Google Gemini AI for food analysis. The AI identifies foods and estimates nutritional values (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber). A health score (1-10) is calculated with personalized improvement tips. The data is appended to Google Sheets for meal history tracking. The image is uploaded to Google Drive for reference. A formatted nutritional report with advice is sent back as a LINE reply. This workflow is intentionally designed to handle one image per execution. Requirements To use this workflow, you will need: A LINE Messaging API account A Google Gemini API key A Google account with access to Google Sheets and Google Drive A Google Sheets document with the following column names: Date Time Meal Type Food Items Calories Protein (g) Carbs (g) Fat (g) Fiber (g) Health Score Advice Image URL Important limitations This workflow does not support multiple images sent in a single message. Sending images in quick succession may trigger multiple executions and lead to unexpected results. Only the first image in an event payload is processed. Nutritional values are AI estimates based on visual analysis and typical serving sizes. Accuracy depends on image quality, lighting, and food visibility. This tool should not replace professional dietary advice. These limitations are intentional to keep the workflow simple and easy to understand. How to set up Create a LINE Messaging API channel and obtain a Channel Access Token. Generate a Google Gemini API key. Update the Config node with your LINE token, Google Sheets ID, Google Drive folder ID, and daily calorie goal. Configure credentials for LINE, Google Gemini, Google Sheets, and Google Drive. Register the n8n webhook URL in your LINE channel settings. Activate the workflow in n8n and test it with a single meal photo. How to customize Modify the AI prompt in the "Analyze Meal with AI" node to support different languages or dietary frameworks (keto, vegan, etc.). Adjust the daily calorie goal in the Config node to match individual needs. Add additional nutritional fields such as sodium, sugar, or vitamins. Replace Google Sheets with a fitness app API or database. Integrate with other services to send daily/weekly nutrition summaries. --- Note: This workflow was tested using real meal photos sent individually via the LINE Messaging API. Nutritional estimates are approximations and may vary from actual values. For accurate dietary tracking, consult a registered dietitian.
