This n8n workflow provides a streamlined solution for uploading multiple files to Google Drive, with intelligent folder creation and management based on user input. It simplifies the process of organizing uploaded content by automatically creating a new folder for each submission if one doesn't already exist.
What it does
This workflow automates the following steps:
- Triggers on Form Submission: It starts when a user submits a form, likely containing file uploads and a desired folder name.
- Checks for Existing Folder: It uses an "If" node to determine if a Google Drive folder with the specified name already exists.
- Creates New Folder (if needed):
- If no folder exists, it creates a new folder in Google Drive using the provided name.
- It then sets the
folderIdto the ID of the newly created folder.
- Uses Existing Folder (if found):
- If a folder with the specified name already exists, it retrieves its ID.
- It then sets the
folderIdto the ID of the existing folder.
- Uploads Files: It iterates through the uploaded files from the form submission and uploads each one to the identified (or newly created) Google Drive folder.
Prerequisites/Requirements
- n8n Instance: A running n8n instance.
- Google Drive Account: A Google account with access to Google Drive.

Setup/Usage
- Import the Workflow:
- Copy the provided JSON code.
- In your n8n instance, click "New Workflow" or open an existing one.
- Go to "Workflows" > "Import from JSON" and paste the code.
- Configure Credentials:
- Locate the "Google Drive" node.
- Click on the "Credential" field and select your existing Google Drive credentials or create new ones if you haven't already. Ensure the credentials have sufficient permissions to create folders and upload files.
- Configure the n8n Form Trigger:
- Select the "On form submission" node.
- Customize the form fields to collect the necessary data, including:
- A field for the desired Google Drive folder name (e.g., a "Text" field).
- A "File" field to allow users to upload files.
- Note the names of these fields as you will need them for expressions in subsequent nodes.
- Configure the "If" Node:
- The "If" node will likely check for the existence of a folder based on the input from the form. Ensure the condition correctly references the folder name provided in the form trigger.
- Configure "Edit Fields" (Set) Nodes:
- There will be two "Edit Fields" nodes, one for the "True" branch (folder exists) and one for the "False" branch (folder needs to be created).
- These nodes are responsible for setting the
folderIdvariable that the Google Drive upload node will use. - Ensure the "Edit Fields" node in the "False" branch correctly extracts the ID of the newly created folder from the "Google Drive" (Create Folder) node.
