This n8n template demonstrates the easiest way to build a lead capture flow for your side project, startup or small business where simple works best!

If Typeform's costs are getting you down or you feel Google form URLs are off-putting, then definitely give this a try.

How it works

  • Our flow begins with a form trigger to capture a newsletter signup and the user's email is captured into a google sheet. Google Sheet is used for demonstration purposes but this could be any database.
  • Multi-page forms allow you to continue the onboarding experience with a short survey. 3 form nodes are chained to capture more details from the user which update the same row in the google sheet.
  • Finally, a form ending node shows a customised completion screen for our user.

Check out the example sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15W1PiFjCoiEBHHKKCRVMLmpKg4AWIy9w1dQ2Dq8qxPs/edit?usp=sharing

How to use

  • Keeping forms simple may serve to increase form completion rates. If you feel the need to add additional fields, consider breaking them up into more forms and group them contextually.

Requirements

  • Google Sheets for data capture
  • Slack for notifications

Feel free to swap these out for services that you use!

Customising this workflow

  • Play with multi-form design to maximise the opportunity of getting to know the user better. That said, lengthy flows are likely to put people off.
  • Instead of showing a static completion screen, perhaps redirecting to your blog or other more interesting page.

Simple Lead Capture and Follow-On with n8n Multi-Forms

This n8n workflow provides a streamlined solution for capturing leads through a multi-step form and performing follow-on actions. It automates the process of collecting information, storing it in Google Sheets, and notifying a team via Slack.

What it does

  1. Listens for Form Submissions: The workflow is triggered when a user submits the first step of a multi-part n8n form.
  2. Presents a Multi-Step Form: It guides the user through subsequent steps of a form, collecting additional lead information.
  3. Records Data in Google Sheets: Upon successful completion of the form, the collected lead data is appended as a new row in a specified Google Sheet.
  4. Notifies Team via Slack: A Slack message is sent to a designated channel, informing the team about the new lead and providing relevant details.

Prerequisites/Requirements

  • n8n Instance: A running instance of n8n.
  • Google Sheets Account: A Google account with access to Google Sheets to store lead data.
  • Slack Account: A Slack workspace and a channel where notifications will be sent.
  • n8n Credentials:
    • Google Sheets API credentials configured in n8n.
    • Slack API credentials configured in n8n.

Setup/Usage

  1. Import the Workflow:
    • Copy the provided JSON code.
    • In your n8n instance, go to "Workflows" and click "New".
    • Click the "Import from JSON" button and paste the workflow JSON.
  2. Configure Credentials:
    • Locate the "Google Sheets" node and configure your Google Sheets credentials. You'll need to specify the Spreadsheet ID and Sheet Name where lead data should be stored.
    • Locate the "Slack" node and configure your Slack credentials. Specify the Channel ID or Name where the lead notification should be posted.
  3. Configure Forms:
    • The "On form submission" (Form Trigger) node initiates the workflow. You will need to customize the fields for your first form step.
    • The "Form" node defines the subsequent steps of your multi-part form. Customize the fields in this node to collect the required lead information.
    • After activating the workflow, n8n will provide a public URL for your form. Share this URL to start capturing leads.
  4. Activate the Workflow: Once all credentials and form fields are configured, activate the workflow to start processing lead submissions.
