n8n Workflow: Smart Package and Visitor Alert System with AI, Google Sheets, and Multi-Channel Notifications
This n8n workflow provides a comprehensive solution for managing package deliveries and visitor arrivals by leveraging AI for intelligent categorization and sending multi-channel alerts via Slack, SMS, and Email, while also logging all events to a Google Sheet.
The workflow acts as a central hub for incoming event data, intelligently processes it, and ensures relevant parties are notified through their preferred communication channels, with a persistent record kept in Google Sheets.
What it does
- Receives Event Data: Listens for incoming POST requests via a Webhook, which are expected to contain information about a package or visitor event.
- Prepares Data for AI: Extracts and structures the relevant event details into a format suitable for AI processing.
- Categorizes with AI (Claude): Uses an Anthropic Chat Model (Claude) via a Langchain "Basic LLM Chain" to analyze the event description and categorize it (e.g., "Package Delivery", "Visitor Arrival"). It also extracts key details like the recipient/visitor name and a summary.
- Parses AI Output: Processes the structured JSON output from the AI model to extract the categorized event type and details.
- Logs to Google Sheets: Appends the original event data, AI-categorized information, and a timestamp to a designated Google Sheet for record-keeping.
- Branches by Event Type: Uses a "Switch" node to route the workflow based on the AI-determined event category.
- Package Delivery:
- Sends a Slack message to a designated channel with package details.
- Sends an SMS alert using seven.
- Sends an email notification.
- Visitor Arrival:
- Sends a Slack message to a designated channel with visitor details.
- Sends an SMS alert using seven.
- Sends an email notification.
- (Implicitly, any other category would not trigger these specific alerts but would still be logged to Google Sheets.)
- Package Delivery:
Prerequisites/Requirements
To use this workflow, you will need:
- n8n Instance: A running n8n instance.
- Webhook Source: A system or application that can send POST requests to the n8n Webhook URL with event data (e.g., a smart doorbell, a package scanner, a custom form).
- Anthropic API Key: For the "Anthropic Chat Model" node (Claude).
- Google Sheets Credential: An n8n credential configured for Google Sheets access, with permissions to write to your target spreadsheet.
- Slack Account & Credential: An n8n credential configured for Slack, with permissions to post messages to the desired channel(s).
- SMS77 (seven) Account & Credential: An n8n credential configured for SMS77 (seven) to send SMS messages.
- SMTP Email Credential: An n8n credential configured for sending emails via an SMTP server.
Setup/Usage
- Import the Workflow: Download the JSON definition and import it into your n8n instance.
- Configure Credentials:
- Set up your Anthropic API Key credential.
- Configure your Google Sheets credential and specify the Spreadsheet ID and Sheet Name in the "Google Sheets" node.
- Configure your Slack credential and specify the Channel ID in the "Slack" node.
- Configure your SMS77 (seven) credential and specify the recipient phone number(s) in the "seven" node.
- Configure your Send Email credential and specify the recipient email address(es) and sender details in the "Send Email" node.
- Activate the Webhook: The "Webhook" node will generate a unique URL when the workflow is activated. Copy this URL.
- Integrate Webhook: Configure your external system (e.g., smart doorbell, package delivery system) to send POST requests to the generated Webhook URL with the event data. The expected payload should contain information that can be processed by the AI (e.g.,
eventDescription, timestamp). - Customize AI Prompt (Optional): Review and adjust the prompt in the "Basic LLM Chain" node to fine-tune how the AI categorizes events and extracts information.
- Customize Notifications: Adjust the messages sent in the "Slack", "seven", and "Send Email" nodes to fit your specific needs, using expressions to dynamically insert data from previous nodes.
- Activate the Workflow: Once all credentials and configurations are set, activate the workflow to start processing events.

If AI returns non-JSON, keep “Return only a JSON array” as the last line of the prompt and keep jsonOutput enabled. Consider adding validation on parsing.warnings to gate Salesforce writes. For discounts/taxes in OLI: Standard OLI fields don’t support per-line discount amounts directly; model them in UnitPrice or custom fields. Replace the Composite API URL with your org’s domain or use the Salesforce node’s Bulk Upsert for simplicity.
