This n8n template saves you hours of manual SEO work by automatically parsing your sitemap and submitting updated URLs to Google and Bing (IndexNow).

Who’s it for

Site owners, SEOs, and marketers who want a single automation to notify Google (Indexing API) and Bing (via IndexNow) whenever site URLs are added or updated. No more need to update it manually. Hours saved

What it does

This workflow parses your sitemap.xml, and for each URLs that have been changed on the last X days (this is a setting from Config node), submit them to Google and Bing via IndexNow. Before submitting to Google it checks the status. For IndexNow it just submits based on the last updated date it can find on the sitemap.

How it works

  • Parses your sitemap(s)to generate a list of urls ordered by lastmod date.
  • Create a batch of the urls updated in the last X days (settings DAYS_BACK from the "Config" node)
  • For Google, it first aks the current indexing notification status of this exact URL. If the sitemap shows the page was modified after the last submission, the workflow sends a new "URL_UPDATED" notification to Google. If Google has no record (404), it means the URL was never submitted and the workflow treats it as new and submits it.
  • For Bing through IndexNow, it only sends “recently changed URLs” based on the sitemap’s <lastmod> and the variable DAYS_BACK from the Config Node, by batches of 500 (current limit recommendation by Bing). IndexNow doesn't have an API to check the status of the url.

Requirements

  • Google Indexing API credentials (Service Account with https://www.googleapis.com/auth/indexing scope, added as Owner in Search Console).
  • IndexNow API key: you can create it here https://www.bing.com/indexnow/getstarted.

How to use

  • Edit the "Config" node with your data & preferences (everything explain in the workflow).
  • Edit the "Check status (Google)" and "URL updated (Google)" node with your Google service account credentials.
  • Execute the workflow to test it
  • Set up a cron with the "Schedule Trigger" node depending on your needs

n8n Workflow: Sitemap URL Submission to Google Indexing API and Bing IndexNow

This n8n workflow automates the process of submitting changed sitemap URLs to Google Indexing API and Bing IndexNow. It's designed to keep your search engine indexes up-to-date with the latest content changes on your website, improving crawl efficiency and content visibility.

What it does

This workflow performs the following key steps:

  1. Trigger: The workflow is manually triggered or can be scheduled to run at specific intervals.
  2. Fetch Sitemap: It makes an HTTP request to retrieve your website's sitemap (e.g., sitemap.xml).
  3. Parse XML: The retrieved XML sitemap content is parsed to extract individual URL entries.
  4. Extract and Process URLs:
    • It extracts the loc (URL) and lastmod (last modified date) for each URL.
    • It filters out URLs that have not been modified recently (e.g., within the last 24 hours, or a configurable timeframe).
  5. Prepare for Submission:
    • For Google Indexing API, it formats the URLs into a batch request.
    • For Bing IndexNow, it formats the URLs into a separate batch request.
  6. Submit to Google Indexing API: It sends a POST request to the Google Indexing API with the list of recently changed URLs.
  7. Submit to Bing IndexNow: It sends a POST request to the Bing IndexNow API with the list of recently changed URLs.
  8. Rate Limiting: Includes a Wait node to respect API rate limits, ensuring smooth operation and preventing temporary bans.

Prerequisites/Requirements

To use this workflow, you will need:

  • n8n Instance: A running instance of n8n.
  • Website Sitemap: An accessible sitemap.xml file for your website.
  • Google Cloud Project & Service Account:
    • A Google Cloud Project with the Indexing API enabled.
    • A Service Account with appropriate permissions to access the Indexing API. You'll need the JSON key file for authentication.
  • Bing Webmaster Tools Account & IndexNow API Key:
    • A Bing Webmaster Tools account.
    • An IndexNow API key, which you typically place in a file named indexnow.txt at the root of your website.

Setup/Usage

  1. Import the Workflow:
    • Download the provided JSON file.
    • In your n8n instance, go to "Workflows" and click "New".
    • Click the "Import from JSON" button and paste the workflow JSON or upload the file.
  2. Configure Credentials:
    • Google Indexing API: Configure an "OAuth2" credential for the Google Indexing API. You'll need to provide the JSON key file for your Google Service Account.
    • Bing IndexNow: Bing IndexNow typically uses an API key embedded in the request or a key file on your server. Ensure your Bing IndexNow integration is correctly set up as per Bing's documentation.
  3. Update Node Parameters:
    • HTTP Request (Fetch Sitemap): Update the URL to your sitemap.xml file.
    • Code (Filter URLs): Review and adjust the JavaScript code in the "Code" node if you need to change the logic for filtering URLs (e.g., modify the lastmod date comparison, or add other filtering criteria).
    • HTTP Request (Google Indexing API): Ensure the "Authentication" is set to your Google Indexing API credential.
    • HTTP Request (Bing IndexNow): Update the URL to include your Bing IndexNow API key and endpoint.
    • Wait Node: Adjust the wait time if necessary to comply with API rate limits.
  4. Activate the Workflow: Once configured, activate the workflow.
  5. Execution:
    • You can manually execute the workflow by clicking "Execute Workflow" on the "Manual Trigger" node.
    • Alternatively, configure the "Schedule Trigger" node to run the workflow automatically at your desired intervals (e.g., daily, hourly).

Two-way property repair management system with Google Sheets & Drive

This workflow automates the repair request process between tenants and building managers, keeping all updates organized in a single spreadsheet. It is composed of two coordinated workflows, as two separate triggers are required — one for new repair submissions and another for repair updates. A Unique Unit ID that corresponds to individual units is attributed to each request, and timestamps are used to coordinate repair updates with specific requests. General use cases include: Property managers who manage multiple buildings or units. Building owners looking to centralize tenant repair communication. Automation builders who want to learn multi-trigger workflow design in n8n. --- ⚙️ How It Works Workflow 1 – New Repair Requests Behind the Scenes: A tenant fills out a Google Form (“Repair Request Form”), which automatically adds a new row to a linked Google Sheet. Steps: Trigger: Google Sheets rowAdded – runs when a new form entry appears. Extract & Format: Collects all relevant form data (address, unit, urgency, contacts). Generate Unit ID: Creates a standardized identifier (e.g., BUILDING-UNIT) for tracking. Email Notification: Sends the building manager a formatted email summarizing the repair details and including a link to a Repair Update Form (which activates Workflow 2). --- Workflow 2 – Repair Updates Behind the Scenes:\ Triggered when the building manager submits a follow-up form (“Repair Update Form”). Steps: Lookup by UUID: Uses the Unit ID from Workflow 1 to find the existing row in the Google Sheet. Conditional Logic: If photos are uploaded: Saves each image to a Google Drive folder, renames files consistently, and adds URLs to the sheet. If no photos: Skips the upload step and processes textual updates only. Merge & Update: Combines new data with existing repair info in the same spreadsheet row — enabling a full repair history in one place. --- 🧩 Requirements Google Account (for Forms, Sheets, and Drive) Gmail/email node connected for sending notifications n8n credentials configured for Google API access --- ⚡ Setup Instructions (see more detail in workflow) Import both workflows into n8n, then copy one into a second workflow. Change manual trigger in workflow 2 to a n8n Form node. Connect Google credentials to all nodes. Update spreadsheet and folder IDs in the corresponding nodes. Customize email text, sender name, and form links for your organization. Test each workflow with a sample repair request and a repair update submission. --- 🛠️ Customization Ideas Add Slack or Telegram notifications for urgent repairs. Auto-create folders per building or unit for photo uploads. Generate monthly repair summaries using Google Sheets triggers. Add an AI node to create summaries/extract relevant repair data from repair request that include long submissions.
