n8n Workflow: AI-Powered Blog Post Generation and Publishing

This n8n workflow automates the entire process of generating SEO-optimized blog posts using AI and publishing them to WordPress, with optional human review via Slack.

It's designed for content creators, marketers, and developers who want to streamline their blog content production, ensuring high-quality, relevant articles are published efficiently.

What it does

This workflow performs the following key steps:

1. Triggers on Schedule: The workflow can be configured to run at a scheduled interval (e.g., daily, weekly).
2. Fetches Blog Post Ideas: It connects to a PostgreSQL database to retrieve blog post ideas.
3. Generates SEO-Optimized Content (AI Agent):
   • For each blog post idea, it uses an AI Agent (powered by OpenAI or OpenRouter) to generate a comprehensive, SEO-optimized blog post.
   • The AI Agent leverages various tools like GitHub, HTTP Request, and Perplexity to gather information and ensure content quality.
   • A Structured Output Parser ensures the AI output adheres to a predefined JSON structure for easy processing.
4. Optional Human Review (Slack):
   • The workflow includes a "No Operation" node which acts as a placeholder for potential human-in-the-loop approval. You can integrate a Slack message or another approval mechanism here to review AI-generated content before publishing.
5. Prepares Content for WordPress:
   • It extracts and transforms the generated content, setting fields like title, content, and categories.
6. Publishes to WordPress: The final, optimized blog post is automatically published to your WordPress site.

Prerequisites/Requirements

To use this workflow, you will need:

• n8n Instance: A running n8n instance to import and execute the workflow.
• PostgreSQL Database: A PostgreSQL database containing your blog post ideas.
• AI Service Credentials:
  • OpenAI API Key OR
  • OpenRouter API Key
• Perplexity API Key (if using Perplexity for AI tools)
• WordPress Account: Access to a WordPress site with appropriate publishing permissions.
• GitHub Account (if the AI agent is configured to use GitHub tools)
• Slack Account (optional, for human review notifications)

Setup/Usage

1. Import the Workflow: Download the provided JSON and import it into your n8n instance.
2. Configure Credentials:
   • Set up credentials for your PostgreSQL database, OpenAI/OpenRouter, Perplexity, and WordPress within n8n.
   • If you plan to use Slack for review, configure your Slack credentials.
   • Ensure any necessary GitHub credentials are set up if the AI Agent is intended to interact with GitHub.
3. Customize Schedule Trigger: Adjust the "Schedule Trigger" node to define how often you want the workflow to run.
4. Review PostgreSQL Query: Update the "Postgres" node to query your database for blog post ideas as needed.
5. Configure AI Agent:
   • Select your preferred AI Chat Model (OpenAI Chat Model or OpenRouter Chat Model).
   • Review and customize the AI Agent's prompt and tools to match your blog content requirements and SEO strategy.
   • Adjust the "Structured Output Parser" to ensure it correctly extracts the desired fields from the AI's response.
6. Implement Human Review (Optional): If you want human review, replace the "No Operation, do nothing" node with a Slack node (or another communication tool) to send the generated content for approval. You would then add a wait node or a manual approval step.
7. Customize WordPress Node: Configure the "Wordpress" node with your WordPress site details, including the post type, status (e.g., 'draft' for review, 'publish' for immediate publishing), and how the AI-generated content maps to WordPress post fields.
