n8n Workflow: Anonymize and Reformat CSVs with Gemini AI and Google Sheets

This n8n workflow automates the process of taking CSV files from Google Drive, processing their content using Google Gemini AI for anonymization and reformatting, and then writing the processed data back to Google Sheets. This is particularly useful for handling sensitive data in CVs or other documents that require anonymization and structured output.

What it does

This workflow streamlines the following steps:

1. Monitors Google Drive: It listens for new or updated CSV files in a specified Google Drive folder.
2. Extracts CSV Data: When a CSV file is detected, it extracts its content.
3. Processes Data with AI Agent: The extracted CSV data is then fed into an AI Agent powered by Google Gemini. This agent is configured to anonymize and reformat the data according to predefined instructions.
4. Compares Datasets: The workflow compares the processed data with existing data in a Google Sheet to identify changes or new entries.
5. Writes to Google Sheets: Finally, the anonymized and reformatted data is written to a Google Sheet, creating new rows or updating existing ones as needed.

Prerequisites/Requirements

To use this workflow, you will need:

• n8n Instance: A running n8n instance.
• Google Account: A Google account with access to Google Drive and Google Sheets.
• Google Drive Credentials: Configured Google Drive OAuth2 credentials in n8n.
• Google Sheets Credentials: Configured Google Sheets OAuth2 credentials in n8n.
• Google Gemini API Key: Access to the Google Gemini API, configured as a credential in n8n for the AI Agent node.

Setup/Usage

1. Import the Workflow:
   • Download the provided JSON file.
   • In your n8n instance, go to "Workflows" and click "New".
   • Click the three dots in the top right corner and select "Import from JSON".
   • Paste the workflow JSON or upload the file.
2. Configure Credentials:
   • Locate the "Google Drive Trigger", "Google Sheets", and "Google Gemini Chat Model" nodes.
   • For each Google node, select or create your Google OAuth2 credentials.
   • For the "Google Gemini Chat Model" node, select or create your Google Gemini API Key credential.
3. Configure Google Drive Trigger:
   • In the "Google Drive Trigger" node, specify the folder ID in Google Drive that you want to monitor for CSV files.
   • Set the "MIME Type" to text/csv or leave it broad if you expect other file types and handle filtering downstream.
4. Configure AI Agent (Google Gemini Chat Model):
   • Open the "AI Agent" node and then the "Google Gemini Chat Model" node within it.
   • Ensure your Gemini API key is correctly configured.
   • Crucially, you will need to define the prompt and instructions for the AI Agent to perform the anonymization and reformatting task. This is where you tell Gemini how to process the CSV data (e.g., "Anonymize all names and contact information, then reformat the CV into a JSON object with fields like 'Experience', 'Education', 'Skills'").
5. Configure Google Sheets Node:
   • In the "Google Sheets" node, specify the spreadsheet ID and sheet name where the processed data should be written.
   • Ensure the "Operation" is set to "Append Row" or "Update Row" as appropriate for your use case, and map the incoming data fields from the AI Agent output to the correct columns in your Google Sheet.
6. Activate the Workflow:
   • Once all configurations are complete, save the workflow and activate it. It will now automatically trigger when new or updated CSV files are found in your specified Google Drive folder.
