This workflow exports every table in a base as its own CSV, saves the files in a time-stamped folder in Amazon S3, pings you on Slack, and optionally prunes older copies. You get an automated weekly backup that is easy to inspect or re-import as needed. You can easily swap the S3 node for the storage provider of your choice.

  • Schedule trigger fires weekly
  • Sets a cut-off date 4 weeks in the past
  • Lists folders in S3
  • Deletes all folders > 4 weeks old

Airtable Base Backup to S3

This n8n workflow automates the process of backing up an Airtable base by exporting its data to a CSV file and storing it in an AWS S3 bucket. It also includes error handling by sending a Slack notification if the backup fails.

What it does

  1. Triggers on a Schedule: The workflow starts automatically based on a defined schedule (e.g., daily, weekly).
  2. Retrieves Airtable Data: It connects to a specified Airtable base and retrieves all records from a designated table.
  3. Converts to CSV: The retrieved Airtable data is transformed into a CSV file format.
  4. Uploads to AWS S3: The generated CSV file is then uploaded to a specified AWS S3 bucket.
  5. Error Handling (Slack Notification): If any step in the backup process fails, a Slack message is sent to a designated channel, alerting about the failure.

Prerequisites/Requirements

  • n8n Instance: A running n8n instance.
  • Airtable Account: An Airtable account with access to the base and table you wish to back up.
  • AWS S3 Account: An AWS account with an S3 bucket configured for storing backups. You'll need appropriate IAM permissions (Access Key ID and Secret Access Key) for n8n to upload files.

Setup/Usage

  3. Configure Nodes:
    • Schedule Trigger: Adjust the schedule to your desired backup frequency (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly).
    • Airtable Node:
      • Select your Airtable credential.
      • Specify the Base ID and Table Name you want to back up.
      • Ensure the operation is set to "Get All" or similar to retrieve all records.
    • Convert to File Node:
      • Ensure the output format is set to "CSV".
      • You might want to configure the filename dynamically using expressions (e.g., {{ $now().toFormat('yyyy-MM-dd') }}_airtable_backup.csv).
    • AWS S3 Node:
      • Select your AWS S3 credential.
      • Set the Operation to "Upload".
      • Specify your Bucket Name.
