What it does

This workflow is designed to detect duplicate files in Google Drive. Although it doesn't automatically delete them, it provides the foundational logic to identify them, enabling you to extend the workflow for custom actions (e.g., notifying you, moving files, or deleting them).

  1. Triggers on new Google Drive files: The workflow starts whenever a new file is added or modified in your Google Drive.
  2. Filters for specific file types: It checks if the newly added/modified file is an actual file (not a folder) and is not a Google Workspace document (like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.). This ensures it only processes files that could potentially have byte-for-byte duplicates.
  3. Extracts file information: For qualifying files, it extracts essential details such as the file name, ID, and MD5 checksum. The MD5 checksum is crucial for identifying exact duplicates.
  4. Checks for duplicates: It then searches Google Drive for other files with the exact same MD5 checksum.
  5. Identifies duplicate status: Based on the search results, it determines if the current file has duplicates.
  6. Routes based on duplicate status:
    • If duplicates are found, the workflow takes one path (currently a "No Operation" node, ready for customization).
    • If no duplicates are found, it takes another path (also a "No Operation" node, ready for customization).

Prerequisites/Requirements
