It checks key revenue and usage metrics every day (such as churn MRR and feature adoption), detects anomalies using a statistical baseline, and automatically creates structured incidents when something unusual happens.

When an anomaly is found, the workflow logs it into a central incident database, alerts the product team on Slack and by email, enriches the incident with context and AI-generated root-cause analysis, and produces a daily health report for leadership.

It helps teams move from passive dashboard monitoring to a proactive, automated system that surfaces real issues with clear explanations and recommended next steps.

Workflow Steps

  1. Daily Revenue Health

Runs once per day, retrieves recent revenue metrics, identifies unusual spikes in churn MRR, and creates incidents when needed. If an anomaly is detected, a Slack alert and email notification are sent immediately.

  1. Daily Usage Health

Monitors feature usage metrics to detect sudden drops in adoption or engagement. Incidents are logged with severity, context, and alerts to the product team.

  1. Root Cause & Summary

For every open incident, the workflow:

Collects additional context from the database (e.g., churn by country or plan)

Uses AI to generate a clear root cause hypothesis and suggested next steps

Sends a summarized report to Slack and email

Updates the incident status accordingly

  1. Daily Product Health Report

Every morning, the workflow compiles all incidents from the previous day into:

  • A daily summary email for leadership

  • A Notion page for documentation and historical tracking

This n8n workflow automates the process of monitoring product health, detecting anomalies, and leveraging AI for root cause analysis, ultimately notifying relevant teams via Slack and email. It simplifies the proactive identification and resolution of product issues.

What it does

This workflow performs the following key steps:

  1. Schedules Monitoring: Periodically triggers the workflow to check product health.
  2. Fetches Product Data: Queries a PostgreSQL database to retrieve current product health metrics.
  3. Analyzes for Anomalies (AI): Uses an OpenAI node to analyze the fetched product data for anomalies and potential issues, providing initial insights.
  4. Conditional Alerting: Evaluates the AI's anomaly detection results:
    • If an anomaly is detected, it proceeds to generate a root cause analysis.
    • If no significant anomaly is found, the workflow concludes without further action.
  5. Generates Root Cause Analysis (AI): If an anomaly is detected, it uses the OpenAI node again to perform a detailed root cause analysis based on the identified issues.
  6. Notifies Teams:
    • Slack: Posts a detailed alert, including the anomaly detection and AI-generated root cause analysis, to a designated Slack channel.
    • Gmail: Sends an email with the same information to a specified recipient list.
  7. Logs to Notion: Records the anomaly detection and root cause analysis details into a Notion database for tracking and historical reference.

Prerequisites/Requirements

To use this workflow, you will need:

  • PostgreSQL Database: Access to a PostgreSQL database containing your product health metrics.
  • OpenAI API Key: For anomaly detection and root cause analysis.
  • Slack Account: To send notifications to your team.

Setup/Usage

  1. Import the Workflow: Download the provided JSON and import it into your n8n instance.
  2. Configure Credentials:
