Check To Do on Notion and send message on Slack
This workflow allows you to check the To-Do list on Notion and send a message on Slack.
Prerequisites
- Create a Notion page similar to this page.
- Create credentials for Notion by following the instructions mentioned in the documentation.
- Follow the steps mentioned in the documentation to create credentials for Slack.
Cron node: This node triggers the workflow every day.
Notion node: This node fetches all the tasks from Notion.
IF node: This node checks if the task is assigned to a particular user.
Create a Direct Message: This node will create a direct message channel with the user.
Send a Direct Message: This node will send the to-do lists in the direct message.
NoOp: This node is connected to the false output of the IF node. If the condition is false, no further action will be taken.
Check To-Do on Notion and Send Message on Slack
This n8n workflow automates the process of checking for specific to-do items in a Notion database and sending a notification to a Slack channel if such items are found. It's designed to ensure important tasks are not overlooked.
What it does
- Schedules a Check: The workflow is triggered on a recurring schedule (e.g., daily, hourly) by the Cron node.
- Fetches Notion Database Items: It connects to a specified Notion database and retrieves a list of items.
- Filters Notion Items: It applies a filter to the retrieved Notion items, likely looking for specific criteria such as "to-do" status, due dates, or assigned users.
- Conditional Logic: An "If" node evaluates whether any items match the specified filter criteria.
- Sends Slack Notification (if items found): If the "If" node evaluates to
true(meaning matching Notion items were found), a message is sent to a designated Slack channel, alerting users about the pending to-do items. - No Operation (if no items found): If the "If" node evaluates to
false(meaning no matching Notion items were found), the workflow proceeds to a "No Operation" node and effectively ends without sending a Slack message.
Prerequisites/Requirements
- Notion Account: Access to a Notion workspace and a specific database.
- Notion Integration: An n8n Notion credential configured with access to the target database.
- Slack Account: Access to a Slack workspace and a channel to post messages.
- Slack Webhook or API Token: An n8n Slack credential configured (likely using a webhook or bot token) to send messages.
Setup/Usage
- Import the workflow: Import the provided JSON into your n8n instance.
- Configure Notion Node:
- Select or create a Notion credential.
- Specify the Notion database ID you want to monitor.
- Configure the filter criteria to identify the "to-do" items you are interested in (e.g.,
StatusisTo Do,Due Dateistoday,Assigned ToisMe).
- Configure If Node:
- Ensure the condition correctly checks if the Notion node returned any items that match your criteria. This typically involves checking the length of the incoming data array from the Notion node.
- Configure Slack Node:
- Select or create a Slack credential.
- Specify the Slack channel where you want to receive notifications.
- Customize the message content to include relevant details about the found to-do items (e.g., item names, links to Notion pages).
- Configure Cron Node:
- Set the desired schedule for the workflow to run (e.g., every morning, once a day, every hour).
- Activate the workflow: Save and activate the workflow in n8n.
