Auto Generate Descriptive Node Names with AI for Workflow Readability
⚡Auto Rename n8n Workflow Nodes with AI✨
This workflow uses AI to automatically generate clear and descriptive names for every node in your n8n workflows. It analyzes each node's type, parameters, and connections to create meaningful names, making your workflows instantly readable.
Who is it for?
This workflow is for n8n users who manage complex workflows with dozens of nodes. If you've ever:
- Built workflows full of generic names like
HTTP Request 2orEdit Fields 1 - Struggled to understand your own work after a few weeks
- Copied workflows from others with unclear node names
- Spent hours manually renaming nodes one by one
...then this workflow will save you significant time and effort.
Requirements
- n8n API Credentials: Must be configured to allow listing and updating workflows
- AI Provider Credentials: An API key for your preferred AI provider (OpenRouter is used currently)
How it works
- Trigger: Launch via form (select from dropdown) or manual trigger (quick testing with pre-selected workflow)
- Fetch: Retrieve the target workflow's JSON and extract nodes and connections
- Generate: Send the workflow JSON to the AI, which creates a unique, descriptive name for every node
- Validate: Verify the AI mapping covers all original node names
- Apply: If valid, update all node names, parameter references, and connections throughout the workflow
- Save: Save/Update the workflow with renamed nodes and provide links to both new and previous versions
If validation fails (e.g., AI missed nodes), the workflow stops with an error. You can modify the error handling to retry or loop back to the AI node.
Setup
-
Connect n8n API credentials
- Open any n8n node in the workflow and make sure your n8n API credentials is connected
-
Configure AI provider credentials
- Open the "OpenRouter" node (or replace with your preferred AI)
- Add your API credentials
- Adjust the model if needed (current:
openai/gpt-5.1-codex-mini)
-
Test the workflow
- Use Manual Trigger for quick testing with a pre-selected workflow
- Use Form Trigger for a user-friendly interface with workflow selection
Important notice
If you're renaming a currently opened workflow, you must reload the page after execution to see the latest version, n8n doesn't automatically refresh the canvas when workflow versions are updated via API.

Auto-Generate Descriptive Node Names with AI for Workflow Readability
This n8n workflow leverages AI to automatically generate descriptive and clear names for your n8n nodes, significantly improving workflow readability and maintainability. By providing a brief description of a node's function, the AI suggests an appropriate, human-readable name.
What it does
This workflow automates the process of naming n8n nodes using an AI chat model.
- Triggers on Form Submission: The workflow starts when a user submits a form.
- Collects Node Description: The form collects a
nodeDescription(e.g., "This node gets data from Google Sheets") and an optionalnodeName(if a preliminary name exists). - Generates AI Prompt: It constructs a prompt for the AI, asking it to generate a descriptive n8n node name based on the provided description and an optional existing name.
- Communicates with AI Model: The prompt is sent to an AI chat model (configured as an OpenRouter Chat Model).
- Parses AI Output: The AI's response is then parsed to extract the suggested node name.
- Presents Suggested Name: The suggested node name is displayed back to the user via an n8n Form, allowing them to accept or refine it.
- Handles Errors: If the AI response is not in the expected format, the workflow stops and reports an error.
Prerequisites/Requirements
- n8n Instance: A running instance of n8n.
- OpenRouter Credential: An OpenRouter API key configured as an n8n credential for the "OpenRouter Chat Model" node.
- Langchain Nodes: The
@n8n/n8n-nodes-langchainpackage needs to be installed in your n8n instance.
Setup/Usage
- Import the Workflow: Import the provided JSON into your n8n instance.
- Configure OpenRouter Credential:
- Locate the "OpenRouter Chat Model" node.
- Click on "Credential" and select or create a new "OpenRouter API" credential.
- Enter your OpenRouter API Key.
- Activate the Workflow: Ensure the workflow is active.
- Access the Form:
- The workflow starts with an "n8n Form Trigger" node.
- Execute the workflow and click on the URL provided by the "n8n Form Trigger" node to access the input form.
- Provide Node Information:
- In the form, enter a descriptive text for your n8n node in the "Node Description" field.
- Optionally, provide a preliminary name in the "Node Name" field if you have one.
- Submit and Review: Submit the form. The workflow will process your request and present an AI-generated node name in a subsequent form.

Two-way property repair management system with Google Sheets & Drive
This workflow automates the repair request process between tenants and building managers, keeping all updates organized in a single spreadsheet. It is composed of two coordinated workflows, as two separate triggers are required — one for new repair submissions and another for repair updates. A Unique Unit ID that corresponds to individual units is attributed to each request, and timestamps are used to coordinate repair updates with specific requests. General use cases include: Property managers who manage multiple buildings or units. Building owners looking to centralize tenant repair communication. Automation builders who want to learn multi-trigger workflow design in n8n. --- ⚙️ How It Works Workflow 1 – New Repair Requests Behind the Scenes: A tenant fills out a Google Form (“Repair Request Form”), which automatically adds a new row to a linked Google Sheet. Steps: Trigger: Google Sheets rowAdded – runs when a new form entry appears. Extract & Format: Collects all relevant form data (address, unit, urgency, contacts). Generate Unit ID: Creates a standardized identifier (e.g., BUILDING-UNIT) for tracking. Email Notification: Sends the building manager a formatted email summarizing the repair details and including a link to a Repair Update Form (which activates Workflow 2). --- Workflow 2 – Repair Updates Behind the Scenes:\ Triggered when the building manager submits a follow-up form (“Repair Update Form”). Steps: Lookup by UUID: Uses the Unit ID from Workflow 1 to find the existing row in the Google Sheet. Conditional Logic: If photos are uploaded: Saves each image to a Google Drive folder, renames files consistently, and adds URLs to the sheet. If no photos: Skips the upload step and processes textual updates only. Merge & Update: Combines new data with existing repair info in the same spreadsheet row — enabling a full repair history in one place. --- 🧩 Requirements Google Account (for Forms, Sheets, and Drive) Gmail/email node connected for sending notifications n8n credentials configured for Google API access --- ⚡ Setup Instructions (see more detail in workflow) Import both workflows into n8n, then copy one into a second workflow. Change manual trigger in workflow 2 to a n8n Form node. Connect Google credentials to all nodes. Update spreadsheet and folder IDs in the corresponding nodes. Customize email text, sender name, and form links for your organization. Test each workflow with a sample repair request and a repair update submission. --- 🛠️ Customization Ideas Add Slack or Telegram notifications for urgent repairs. Auto-create folders per building or unit for photo uploads. Generate monthly repair summaries using Google Sheets triggers. Add an AI node to create summaries/extract relevant repair data from repair request that include long submissions.
Send WooCommerce cross-sell offers to customers via WhatsApp using Rapiwa API

Data Privacy: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations when sending marketing messages. Error Handling: The workflow logs unverified numbers but doesn't have extensive error handling. Consider adding error notifications for failed API calls. Product Availability: The workflow recommends the latest product in a category, but doesn't check if it's in stock. Consider adding stock status verification. Testing: Always test with a small batch before running the workflow on your entire customer list.
