Automated Resume Tailoring with Telegram Bot, LinkedIn & OpenRouter AI
This n8n workflow automates the process of tailoring your resume for specific job applications by leveraging a Telegram bot for input, scraping job descriptions from LinkedIn, and using OpenRouter AI to generate a customized resume.
Description
This workflow streamlines the tedious task of manually updating your resume for each job application. By simply providing a LinkedIn job URL and your base resume via a Telegram bot, the workflow intelligently extracts key requirements from the job description, then uses an AI model to generate a tailored resume that highlights your relevant skills and experiences.
What it does
- Listens for Telegram Messages: The workflow is triggered when a message is received by a configured Telegram bot.
- Parses Telegram Input: It extracts the LinkedIn job URL and the user's base resume from the incoming Telegram message.
- Fetches LinkedIn Job Description: It makes an HTTP request to the provided LinkedIn job URL to retrieve the job posting's HTML content.
- Extracts Job Details: The HTML content is then processed to extract the relevant job description text.
- Prepares AI Prompt: The extracted job description and the user's base resume are combined into a structured prompt for the AI model.
- Generates Tailored Resume with OpenRouter AI: An OpenRouter AI chat model is used to generate a new resume version, specifically tailored to the job description, based on the provided input.
- Sends Tailored Resume via Telegram: The generated, tailored resume is sent back to the user through the Telegram bot.
Prerequisites/Requirements
- n8n Instance: A running n8n instance.
- Telegram Bot: A Telegram bot token and a chat ID to interact with the bot.
- OpenRouter API Key: An API key for OpenRouter to access their AI models.
- LinkedIn Account (Optional): While the workflow scrapes public job pages, having a LinkedIn account might be beneficial for testing or if LinkedIn changes its public access policies.
Setup/Usage
- Import the Workflow:
- Download the provided JSON file for this workflow.
- In your n8n instance, click "Workflows" in the left sidebar.
- Click "New" and then "Import from JSON".
- Paste the workflow JSON or upload the file.
- Configure Credentials:
- Telegram Trigger & Telegram Node: Set up your Telegram Bot API credentials. You'll need your Bot Token.
- OpenRouter Chat Model: Configure your OpenRouter API key credential.
- Activate the Workflow: Once all credentials are set, activate the workflow by toggling the "Active" switch in the top right corner of the workflow editor.
- Use the Telegram Bot:
- Send a message to your configured Telegram bot.
- The message should contain the LinkedIn job URL and your base resume text. For example:
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/your-job-url-here [Your full resume text goes here, including contact info, experience, skills, etc.] - The bot will then respond with your tailored resume.
