Generate Weekly n8n Execution Report and Email Summary

**Description:**

How it works

  • Automatically runs every 7 days to pull all n8n workflow executions from the past week
  • Merges execution data with workflow information to provide context
  • Generates a professional HTML report with execution statistics (errors, successes, waiting status)
  • Sends the formatted report with Outlook or Gmail

Set up steps

1. Configure n8n API Credential

  • Go to your n8n instance โ†’ Settings โ†’ API
  • Create a new API token with read access to workflows and executions
  • In this workflow, add a new "n8n" credential and paste your API token
  • This credential is used by two nodes: "Get all Workflows" and "Get all previous executions"

2. Connect Email Services

  • Configure your Outlook credential in the "Send a message outlook" node
  • Configure your Gmail credential in the "Send a message gmail" node
  • Set your preferred email recipients in both nodes

3. Adjust Schedule (Optional)

  • By default, the workflow runs every 7 days
  • Edit the "Schedule Trigger" node to change the interval if needed

Key features

  • Tracks workflow execution status and runtime metrics
  • Calculates average and total runtime for each status type
  • Provides visual HTML report with color-coded status indicators
  • Dual email delivery (Outlook + Gmail options)
  • Requires only n8n API credentials (no external API keys needed)
  • Need Help

Generate Weekly Workflow Analytics Reports with n8n API & Email Delivery

This n8n workflow automates the process of generating weekly analytics reports for your n8n workflows and delivering them via email. It leverages the n8n API to fetch workflow execution data, processes it, and then sends a consolidated report.

What it does

  1. Schedules Report Generation: Triggers the workflow weekly at a specified time.
  2. Fetches Workflow Data: Uses the n8n API to retrieve a list of all active workflows.
  3. Processes Workflow Executions: For each active workflow, it fetches its execution history.
  4. Filters and Aggregates Data: Filters the execution data to include only successful executions within the last week and aggregates relevant metrics.
  5. Generates Report: Compiles the aggregated data into a structured report.
  6. Sends Email Report: Delivers the generated report to a specified email address using either Gmail or Microsoft Outlook.

Prerequisites/Requirements

  • n8n Instance: An active n8n instance where this workflow will run.
  • n8n API Key: An API key for your n8n instance with sufficient permissions to read workflow and execution data.
  • Email Account:
    • Gmail Account: If using the Gmail node, a configured Gmail credential in n8n.
    • Microsoft Outlook Account: If using the Microsoft Outlook node, a configured Microsoft Outlook credential in n8n.

Setup/Usage

  1. Import the Workflow:
    • Copy the provided JSON code.
    • In your n8n instance, go to "Workflows" and click "New".
    • Click the "Import from JSON" button and paste the copied JSON.
  2. Configure Credentials:
    • n8n API: Locate the "n8n" node. You will need to set up an n8n API credential. This typically involves providing your n8n instance URL and an API key.
    • Email Service:
      • If using the "Gmail" node, configure your Gmail OAuth2 or API key credential.
      • If using the "Microsoft Outlook" node, configure your Microsoft Outlook OAuth2 credential.
  3. Customize Email Recipients:
    • In the "Gmail" or "Microsoft Outlook" node, update the "To" field with the email address(es) where you want to receive the weekly reports.
  4. Activate the Workflow:
    • Ensure the "Schedule Trigger" node is enabled and configured to your desired weekly schedule.
    • Activate the workflow by toggling the "Active" switch in the top right corner of the workflow editor.

The workflow will now automatically run on its schedule, generate the analytics reports, and send them to the specified email address.
